Water Weaver by Morgan Sheppard!
Water Weaver (Wraidd Elfennol #1)
by Morgan Sheppard
Every year, the community from across the island gather for the Summer Solstice. It is at this celebration the Lords and Ladies of Wraidd Elfennol make an astounding announcement. The sacred artefacts are missing. They then proclaim that four individuals, along with their animal Life Partners, will be selected to restore the balance.
Marella and her otter, Nixie, are chosen because of their link to the element of Water and along with her, three others – each in-tune with a different element.
Together they embark on a quest to either find the missing artefacts or somehow create new ones. As the world around them changes, danger lurks with every challenge the group face. They must hurry as the elements need to be restored before a year and a day have passed.
Failure is not an option or the world as they know it will cease to exist.
Marella started at the outer stone and kept her left hand in touch with the stones. She started to swim around the spiral towards the centre. She always worried her breath would run out before she reached the middle, but knew from experience there would be enough.
Nixie swam alongside her, keeping pace, and watched Marella carefully. When she had first attempted the dive, she hadn’t been able to make it to the centre, before she ran out of breath, and he had had to help her get to the surface. He knew her lungs had strengthened from all the swimming they did and now she was more than capable of swimming the spiral.
Marella swam slowly and respectfully, ensuring her hand remained in constant contact with the stones. As she neared the centre of the spiral, she felt the current suddenly change direction. It started to swirl around her and made it difficult for her to continue. The hair that had come free of the braid was swept in front of her eyes. With her right hand, she tried to pull it away so that she could see again, whilst still making sure her left hand touched the stones. Just as she was able to pull it away, her hand touched the centre stone.
There was an explosion of air and light within the water and Marella felt her body being dragged down. “NIXIE!” she screamed before everything turned black and her senses dulled.
